01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of Hollister, CA, The Wok offers a genuine taste of Chinese cuisine that is both authentically crafted and irresistibly flavorful. This unassuming gem, situated at 351 San Felipe Rd, might appear modest from the outside, but inside awaits a culinary experience that delights all the senses and invites you to savor every bite.

The Wok’s menu showcases a well-curated selection of classic Chinese dishes, from vibrant vegetable options like Broccoli with Garlic Sauce and Spicy Green Beans—each sautéed to tender perfection, seasoned with a subtle balance of heat and garlic—to their comforting, rich House Special Chow Mein, a symphony of fresh noodles tossed with savory meats and crisp veggies. The generous portions ensure that every meal is both satisfying and good value, leaving diners more than content. For something lighter but equally enticing, the Vegetable Chow Mein embodies the true essence of freshness and texture, while shrimp lovers will find the Shrimp Chow Mein a succulent treat with perfectly cooked seafood.

Complementing the food menu is an impressive array of beverages that reflect a fusion of traditional and contemporary flavors: from the creamy indulgence of Boba Milk Tea and refreshing Passion Fruit Green Tea with Boba to tropical delights like the Mango Smoothie and Avocado Smoothie. These drinks add a playful yet sophisticated layer to the dining experience, making The Wok a perfect spot for both a casual lunch and a relaxed family dinner.

What truly stands out about The Wok, beyond its exceptional food, is its welcoming and intimate atmosphere. Though frequently described as a local “hole in the wall,” the restaurant maintains impeccable cleanliness and the staff exudes warmth and kindness, making every guest feel valued and cared for. The vibrant energy and genuine hospitality transform each visit into more than just a meal—it’s an experience of comfort and culinary adventure.

Customer stories underscore this sentiment vividly. Longtime patrons have noted a remarkable transformation since new management took over, praising the freshness and deliciousness of dishes like the honey chicken and house specials. Others appreciate the generous portions and authentic flavors, particularly highlighting the fried rice and chow mein as outstanding examples of homestyle cooking done right. Desserts like delicate sesame balls provide a perfect sweet finish, rounding out meals with finesse and care.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Hollister, The Wok invites you to dive into hearty, lovingly prepared Chinese cuisine that honors its roots while embracing a vibrant community spirit. Step inside, embrace the embracing aromas and bold flavors, and treat yourself to a dining experience that lingers pleasantly in memory long after the last bite.

Found ourselves at The Wok as our “go to” Chinese place in Hollister a block away is closed Saturday for lunch. WOW! How fortunate for us!! The food is great! Fresh, authentic, delicious. The place is clearly a local “hole in the wall “ as described, but is incredibly clean and the people are lovely. The portions are huge and the prices are great. Though it was lunchtime, we had the family dinner with the Mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken etc. WHAT A DEAL! My husband and I (BIG EATERS) ate till we were full and STILL will have a GREAT dinner tomorrow with the leftovers. I only rarely post, but had to because ASK YOURSELVES: If you were made sick by a restaurant, would you take photos/document/reach out to Public Health, or write a review on Google? I would ask everyone PLEASE, if you have a terrible dining experience, take the appropriate steps to help us all…Think twice about whether everything you read is true. I hate to see GREAT places hurt by the review process.

5 years ago, this place was not great. Not sure when, but I heard there was a change of owner and/or chef. Now, the food is absolutely delicious! Hole in the wall chinese restaurant located in the same car sales lot. Don't judge its book by its cover. Although the interior and exterior are not great to look at, once you get your food, it'll be all worth it. Highly recommend the honey chicken, mongolian beef, house chowmein, and definitely honey walnut shrimp. Also, the portion of food is very generous.

Today was my first time trying this local restaurant although it is hidden I loved it!!! The host was absolutely helpful and kind with a great attitude! When I got home and got the chance to try out the food, I was surprised with the portions. It is very much worth its' price! The fried rice was 10/10. Very authentic . I also ordered chow mein it was also 10/10. The house chicken 10/10 GREAT! You might think I am exaggerating but I assure you if you give this place a chance, you WILL come back for more. If you love boba I recommend peach green tea and passionfruit green tea it was very delicious!

Absolutely delicious! I had the veggie eggplant and veggie chow mein with sesame balls for dessert. So delicious! Ni greasiness and great seasoning, perfectly cooked. Mom had a shrimp dish that looked amazing. She ordered extra to go since everything was so fresh and scrumptious.
